Joseph Fackenheim, artistic director of the Aspaklaria Jewish Repertory Theatre Company, is a Canadian-born actor and director, who has been onstage since the age of 14.
Joseph, who graduated in acting studies from the Nissan Nativ Acting Studio in Jerusalem, received his MA in Classical Acting from the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in the UK.
When beginning his work with Aspaklaria in 2008, Joseph discovered what, for him, was a new world - the world of Jewish Theatre. Theatre that delves into Jewish roots, traditions and culture in a singular, scintillating way.
He was especially struck by the powerful potential of a touring theatre which brings its magic to audiences far and wide, without access to a quality Jewish theatre experience.
Now, following six years with Aspaklaria in Israel, Joseph and his associate in running the North American branch, Rabbi Hagay Lober, have branched out to Toronto as the Company’s first North American location. Their dream is spreading Israeli and Jewish culture across the continent.
Joseph is also an accredited facilitator for groups of all ages and backgrounds, using theatre tools, to animate his skill as an instructor in effective communication, public speaking, team building, violence prevention, and more.
